That driveway is probably my very favorite thing about Pemberley. At our old house, there was nowhere for the kids to ride bikes. I would tell them to play outside and they would tell me that we had “the worst backyard in the whole world and it was so boring and there was absolutely nothing to do!!!” I used to bribe them with popsicles to play outside… one for each half hour spent there. And still most of the time, a popsicle wasn’t enough. They started asking for cash.
Last night during Kitty’s screamy period (the hour before dinner time) I took her outside to distract her from her misery. She loves being outside. Most babies do, I think. Every morning when we walk out to the car, she makes a very tight “O” with her mouth and with big eyes she says “OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!” because she is so excited to finally get out of the house. It is darn cute.
Anyway, last night while Kitty explored and tried to ride bikes that are too big for her, Jane started playing in the truck just as the sun was starting to drop behind the hills around our house. It was beautiful. The weather was perfect, our surroundings were peaceful and scenic. I love it here.
And then Mr. Darcy got home from work and Kitty pointed at him and excitedly called, “Mama!!!” Ha! She just learned to say “Mama” last week, and some days I wonder why I wanted her to so much. Especially when she is hanging onto my legs and miserably moaning, “Maaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaaaa!!!” in the most pathetic voice possible.
But it does make me laugh that she has called Mr. Darcy “Dada” for months and months… called me Dada for months as well. And now that she can say Mama, it’s all Mama, all the time. Yes, I am easily amused.
