My last two baby girls have gone from refusing to wear shoes for the first year of their life, to developing a serious shoe fetish around 18 months. The old women in grocery stores would frequently “Tsk tsk” Kitty’s barefeet when she was a small lumpy thing. My realtor asked once, “Does she ever where shoes?” Nope. She would always kick them off at stores, church, or wherever. I stopped trying because we lost so many of them around town.
But now she’s all about the shoes. Maybe mostly because she knows that shoes mean that we’re leaving the house. If you put shoes on her and then don’t leave immediately, she starts screaming, “BYE BYE!!!!!!!” and hanging pathetically from the garage doorknob.
So, Jane (also a shoe lover) got some dress up shoes for Christmas. Jane has never wanted to dress up in princess costumes. They’re too itchy, she can’t stand them. But, dress up shoes are her favorite.
Kitty’s, too, apparently. She stole Jane’s dress up shoes from her closet and thought marching around on our hardwood floors was the neatest thing ever. Click, click, click… She was in heaven.
