I finally finished the bookshelves and was able to restore a tiny bit of organization to our home.
I decided to banish the kids books and DVDs from this room. That has considerably improved the appearance, I believe.
Mr. Darcy has a lot of souvenirs from his mission to the Marshall Islands, and I could never figure out how to display them properly. The boats, shark, and seashells used to be shoved up at the top of the bookshelves haphazardly. This is much better.
I toyed with the idea of adding wallpaper behind the shelves to add some color and pattern. Then I remembered that I hate wallpaper. But, the idea still appeals to me and it wouldn’t be that terrible to remove wallpaper in just a small section of this room. Right?
But, I am so fundamentally opposed to wallpaper that it would be like selling my soul to the devil. So, I investigated the idea of using a stencil to give the look of wallpaper. I was THISCLOSE to ordering one…
Ultimately, I decided that I was sick of having books all over my house and put everything away. I am still considering either option, though. Once the room is completed I will make a decision either way. What do you think?
I’m not totally comfortable with the task of organizing a bunch of unrelated objects to make them look aesthetically pleasing and intentional, but I did my best. I’m sure actual designers would scoff at the results. Are you a designer? Are you scoffing at me? Don’t be a jerk. Just tell me how to fix it.
Can I admit that I only bought this book for the pretty cover? I have no intention of ever reading it. It cost a buck. I say it was money well spent.
