We are replacing some of our windows in the next two months. Most of the windows in Pemberley are original and while I find them charming to look at, our heating bills are insane. I am not kidding, either. If you knew how much we pay to heat this place, you would poop your pants. Well, probably not, but you would definitely laugh at us and call us suckers.
So, I’m conflicted. I like my old, leaded glass windows. They came with the house back in 1939. They are pretty. They are also almost entirely painted shut (the one above is the last remaining window that actually opens), and if you stand next to them you can feel the draft wafting through. Seriously, they need to go. But, I will kind of miss them.
I told Mr. Darcy that and he looked at me like I was insane. Let’s just say, he does not share this sentiment.
In a perfect world with unlimited funds, we would have replaced them with custom windows that are energy efficient, yet still maintain the old windows’ historical charm. However, we’re desperate for any improvement on our heating bills, so we’re settling for what we can afford at the moment.
We start phase 1 of our window replacement tomorrow morning. I am nervous and excited all at the same time.
