1. She has an imaginary friend named Spencer (she pronounces it Fencer). He lives on the left side of her face, for some reason. She will say, “Fencer wants more candy.” and I’ll say, “Who is Spencer?”. And she will point to her left cheek. Or if we are going somewhere, she’ll say, “Fencer wants to come!” No idea where this came from, but it makes me laugh.
2. Kitty is obsessed with George Washington. The obsession started with a dollar bill her grandma had given her. She asked me, “Who’s that guy?” pointing at his picture.
“George Washington,” I said.
“I wanna see him. I wanna go to his house.”
“Well, his house is very far away. I’m sorry.” I said.
“I WANNA GO TO HIS HOUSE!!! Pretty pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?!”
She kept asking and asking to go to his house. She was very insistent. I wasn’t really sure how to resolve the issue, and then I remembered that lying is always the best policy. And I remembered that there is a house about a mile from us that was built as a replica of a home that General Washington lived in at Valley Forge. So, I drove her past the house, told her, “Look! There’s George Washington’s house!” and she giggled with joy.
Now, every time we drive near it she yells out, “There’s Dorge Washes-sing’s house!!!”
And every time she sees the Washington State flag she hollers, “There’s Dorge Washes-sing!!”
And her favorite book is Curious George and the hot air balloon because George goes to Mount Rushmore and accidentally rescues a worker that is stranded on George Washington’s nose.
(Can somebody explain to me why the Man in the Yellow hat always leaves George alone when he gets into trouble every. single. time?)
3. She likes to go to bed at night, especially if she didn’t take a nap. We will be eating dinner and she’ll be spazzing out, trying to stand on her head, climbing up and down off her chair and I will say, “Kitty, sit down or you are going to bed.”
Her: “Okay. I go to bed.”
Me: “You want to go to bed right now?”
Her: “Yes. Where’s my nana?”
And so she gives everyone a kiss and happily marches upstairs with Mr. Darcy to her bedroom. It’s crazy and awesome at the same time. It is crazy awesome.
She’s a cute little bug. And she makes me excited for the next little girl that is coming. I think toddler girls are magic.
