Back when we were house hunting, high on my list of NEEDS was a formal living room. I need a pretty place that is right off the entry where my kids are not allowed. Ha ha. I’m only slightly kidding. And since I needed a formal living space, naturally I needed some other casual living space that the kids could actually step foot in.
Welllllll, technically Pemberley does have a formal living room and a casual family room. However, the family room is in the basement apartment where my sister lives, so we have been doing all our family room type activities in the living room. The TV watching, laundry folding, Wii playing, etc. has been going on right off the entry and I shouldn’t have to mention that my pretty space has looked very… lived in.
Low on my list of NEEDS was a formal dining room because I am a terrible entertainer, a barely passable cook, and most importantly, pretty lazy. So, we had a lovely dining space that was too big for our furniture and never used. It was always the cleanest room in the house.
It was pretty, but a waste of space. And I kept holding onto the hope that someday I would knock down the kitchen wall and turn it into a great room. But, I have had to be honest with myself… that is a very long way off. And in the meantime, I’m sick of having my messy room within view of my front door.
And it is right off the kitchen so I can keep a closer eye on the kids while I’m cooking. Or a closer eye on Kitty while I am feeding the baby, since Kitty has learned that is the perfect opportunity to go raid the fridge. I can’t tell what she is doing from the living room all the way across the house.
Guess what time it was when I was taking pictures?! And we aren’t going to leave the piano there. We need some strong men to help us move it down into the living room. So, if you are a strong male relative of mine that lives in town… you probably want to avoid our phone calls for the next few days.
(Ha ha, just kidding. None of my in town male relatives read my blog.)
